The Adopt-a-Tree program in the Miami-Dade area of Florida continues to be a successful charity event for residents of Broward County. The program allows residents to receive free trees in the garden or yard of a single-family home or duplex. Instructions
1. Find out when the next Adopt-a-Tree program event will be held in your area. Visit the Miami-Dade website (see Resources) for the Adopt-a-Tree Event Schedule. This is where you'll find up-to-date information on the types of species available and the location of the event. Popular venues include the Miami-Dade County Fairgrounds, the Miami Dade County Auditorium and the Harris Field Barn Pavilion.
2. Make sure you meet the eligibility requirements. Review the eligibility requirements on the website to make sure you qualify for adopting a tree and planting it in your residential property. Requirements include owning residential property in Miami-Dade County and having enough space to plant a tree; having written permission from your landlord if you are renting your home; and taking your property's bill of sale to the pickup center.
3. Obtain your folio number. Work through the "My Home" application to search for your home address and print out your official folio number. This can help speed up the registration process when participating in the Adopt-a-Tree program.
4. Print the official registration form. Complete all fields in the Adopt-a-Tree Registration Form; make sure your folio number and address are also filled out in the appropriate area.
5. Go to the Adopt-a-Tree event. Arrive as early as possible to stake your claim on the type of tree species you want. Popular species include the pigeon plum, green buttonwood, longan, avocado, mango and jackfruit trees. You will need your registration form, folio number and valid photo ID with your current address.
