Raise Money For Abused Animals

Happy and healthy animals are the goal

Each year, between five and seven million animals are housed in shelters, including those that have been abused, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, or ASPCA. Among the ways to raise money for abused animals are bake sales, walk-a-thons, dog walks and auctions. Raising money for these animals can help them recover and find loving homes.

Instructions

1. Contact local agencies. County shelters, ASPCA offices and no-kill shelters are located throughout the country and most exist thanks to some form of donor help. Contact one of your local agencies and inquire about raising money for them. Include them in your efforts and ask for their support and help. Animal shelters can help by providing access to a network of volunteers, bringing adoption animals to your event and distributing marketing material pertinent to the agency and your event.

2. Develop a plan and organize your event. Your plan should indicate your goals, including how much you hope to raise and the ways in which you hope to raise funds for abused animals. When organizing a fundraiser, seek help from animal advocacy groups and volunteers. Volunteers can be used to get the word out about the event, prepare the event location and lend a hand throughout the event. Local churches, dog parks and high schools may offer free space for bake sales and walk-a-thons, while reception halls and local community centers may offer donated space for auctions. For outside events, consider scheduling a make-up day in case the weather doesn't cooperate.

3. Seek help from local organizations and companies. Local companies may be happy to provide gift certificates, baked goods and other items for you to feature at a raffle or auction to raise additional funds for abused animals. Businesses can be enticed by offering a reminder that donations are tax-deductible and can help bolster a positive company image within the community.

Small companies can be approached in-person for a donation request. For larger companies, contact the company by phone to obtain targeted contact information for the person in charge of corporate donations. Craft a personalized request and submit it in writing. Follow-up with a phone call if you don't receive a response within a reasonable time-frame.

4. Market the event. Once you've decided on a date, time and venue for your event, begin to advertise. Advertising can be done through social websites, such as Facebook, and through email to family, friends and co-workers. Local stores may allow you to put up a poster advertising your event. In addition, you can register your event on the ASPCA website. Go to the website for ASPCA ambassadors and select the "Create Your Own Event" option. From there you will be able to register your event by entering information pertaining to your event and fund-raising objectives.
