Draw A Pit Bull

Draw a pit bull in a few simple steps.

Pit bulls continue to gain media attention for deadly attacks and have a reputation as the country's most dangerous dogs. Experts disagree about whether pit bulls are inherently more dangerous or just products of irresponsible dog owners. Regardless, pit bulls are an intriguing animal with distinct physical attributes. You can draw a pit bull by following a few instructions.

Instructions

1. Draw a large circle near the top of a piece of paper. This shape will be the head. From the head, draw two short straight lines. The two lines will form the neck--ensure the neck is proportionate to the head. Below the neck, draw a second circle, three times larger than the first, to create the pit bull's chest. Draw one last circle behind the dog's body. This shape will be the dog's rear end; it should be roughly the same size as the head.

2. Sketch a light plus sign directly in the center of the head. From the middle point of the plus sign, sketch a small dog snout. From the snout, sketch two straight lines below both sides--each line should point toward the bottom middle of the head, creating a bold jawline. Sketch pointed ears on top of the dog's head. Draw four oval shapes where the legs should be. Sketch the front legs below the front of the body and the rear legs toward the back part of the body, directly in front of the dog's rear end. Leave a small gap between the front legs and a slightly larger gap between the rear legs. Draw small circles under each leg to create paws.

3. Sketch the dog's face in the top circle. Draw two almond-shaped eyes on each upper quad of the plus sign. In the bottom center quad of the plus sign, form a small mouth. Shade the face and ears with light strokes to give the dog's face depth. Clean up the ovals you drew for the legs, shaping muscular legs for the dog. Detail the paws with small strokes and shading. Refer to a picture of a pit bull to get the most accurate results.

4. Sketch and shade any distinct markings you wish to include, such as spots or darker patches on the body.

5. Blend together the circles, legs and paws with your pencil, using light strokes. Erase excess sketch marks, such as the plus sign drawn in the first circle, to make your pit bull complete.
