Teen Volunteer Projects

Volunteering helps motivate teens for a paid job in the future, according to Family Education.

Volunteering can not only enhance a teen's college application, but it's also a way to help the community at a young age. Working as a volunteer can help teens acquire new abilities, and it enables then to gain knowledge about future careers, according to Family Education, a resource website for parents and families. Communities throughout the United States are in need of teens to lend a hand for a worthy cause.

River Cleanup

If there is a river, stream or other body of water in your community, a cleanup effort may be needed to remove trash and debris from the area. Organize a river cleanup initiative, and recruit numerous volunteers to dedicate a few hours or an entire day to clean up the beds of the river. To help spread the word about the project, post fliers at your school, or request that the event be covered by a writer for your school or city newspaper. Let volunteers know to bring gloves and plastic trash bags. Coordinate the event on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon, when it's likely that volunteers will attend the cleanup effort.

Coach a Sports Team

Youth organizations nationwide are in need of sports programs for children, but don't have the funds to hire coaches. To support youth in your community, coach a sports team for a season. It's only beneficial to take on this project if you have experience playing the particular sport. Coordinate practice times, and establish positive relationships with the children and their family members. Ensure you're committed, show up on time to practices and games and maintain a good balance of patience with the young teammates. This project may last a few evenings and mornings per week, and it should go on through the entire sports season.

Beautification Project

Nonprofit organizations, schools, recreation centers and playgrounds nationwide need sprucing up in terms of their appearance. A flower bed may need new plants and flowers, or a school's outside benches may need a fresh coat of paint. Determine needs in your community by calling school administrators, nonprofit volunteer coordinators or city officials. Once a need has been established, get permission from the appropriate person to complete a beautification project. Many projects may require purchasing supplies, so it may be beneficial to budget your finances before taking on this project. Depending on the size of the project, you may want to recruit additional volunteers.
