Compare Heated Pet Beds

Pets recovering from surgery are often prescribed heat therapy by veterinarians.

A warm bed is a luxury many pet owners enjoy giving their pets. Heated beds designed for pets stay at or below the average body temperature of cats and dogs which is about 102 degrees Fahrenheit. Heated pet beds are available in a variety of styles and sizes to accommodate the needs of the pet and owner. The features of heated pet beds can be objectively compared to make the selection that is right for your pet and home.

Instructions

1. Locate where the pet bed will reside. Consider the distance from an electrical outlet and if the heated pet bed will be indoors or outdoors. Measure the full length of the pet when it is laying down.

2. Research the available indoor or outdoor heated pet beds online, in catalogs or at a pet store to find models that meet the location and size requirements. Some pet stores allow you to bring the pet along to try out the heated beds.

3. Evaluate the quality and construction of any qualifying heated pet bed candidates. Make sure the Underwriters Laboratory (UL) symbol is present somewhere on the packaging or bed itself. Press on the panels and disassemble the bed if possible to determine how well it is made.

4. Look for safety and luxury features like adjustable or programmable heat settings and grounded three-prong power cords. Some heated pet bed models have removable heater inserts that allow the bed cover and cushions to be washed by hand or in the washing machine.

5. Compare the styling and pricing of the heated pet beds that have met and exceeded your expectations. Manufacturers often offer a few different colors and fabrics for each heated bed model. Imagine the location of the heated pet bed and what would look best.
