Make A Birth Certificate For An Animal

Honor your pet by making it a birth certificate.

Many of us have special animals in our life. Our relationship with our pets often knows no bounds. We can become as close to our animal friends as we do to our human friends. Some of us even treat our animals like our children. Make a birth certificate for your pet to celebrate that special connection you have with it.

Instructions

1. Gather information about your animal. Try to find out the animal's birth date. More than likely, you'll have to guess at birth weight, length, height and time of birth. However, if you purchased your pet from a breeder, check with him because he may have tracked that information.

2. You may have a certificate template on your word processing software that will work for a birth certificate for your animal. If you like, you can use a on-line template (see Resources) for a birth certificate. A template for regular certificate can be modified, also, if you can't find a template for a birth certificate. If using a template, open it, or else open a blank document or work space.

3. Add a border for the birth certificate, or modify the border in your template with a baby-appropriate border. You can generally find this option in the clip-art section. You may want to use a pink-based border for a girl animal or a blue-based border for a boy animal.

4. Add clip art to the birth certificate, if you wish. Choose something baby or animal appropriate. Clip art of animal paw prints, for example, are great to use in the place of baby footprints.

5. Add the lines that will hold the information you collected for the birth certificate. In most word processing or desktop publishing programs, you will use the drawing tool to create the lines. Don't forget to add a signature line where you will sign the birth certificate for your animal.

6. Add wording to your birth certificate. Give your birth certificate a title. Add captions for name, time of birth, and birth weight under the lines that the corresponding information will be written.

7. Print the birth certificate. Purchase certificate paper or resume paper from your local office supply store if you want to make the certificate look more authentic.

8. Sign the animal's birth certificate. If you would like, buy a gold seal to place on the certificate to make it look more "official." Your animal's birth certificate is now ready for framing or the scrapbook.
