Make Kitten Toys Out Of Yarn

Make a cat toy using craft supplies.

If you have a new pet kitten, you may enjoy seeing the its excitement while batting at different objects. One way to make your kitten even more excited is to use a kitten toy to entice it. You do not have to buy a premade toy from a pet supply store. Instead, you can construct your own toy using a few basic craft materials that can be purchased inexpensively from a craft supply store.

Instructions

1. Cut out two circles from cardboard that each measure 3 inches in diameter. Cut out a hole from the center of each circle that measures 1 inch in diameter. Place the two circles against each other, lining up the holes.

2. Wrap colorful yarn around the cardboard circles, winding the yarn around and through the hole. Continue wrapping yarn until you can no longer fit yarn through the hole.

3. Hold the form vertically in one of your hands, and cut around the diameter of the doubled cardboard circles using scissors. Wrap a 6-inch piece of yarn in between the circles, and tie it tightly into a knot. Remove the cardboard circles, and trim the yarn that is too long. This will create one pom pom.

4. Heat up a hot glue gun for five minutes to melt the hot glue stick inside of it. Squeeze a pea-sized dollop of hot glue onto the end of a wooden dowel, and press the handmade pom pom onto the glue. Hold the pom pom in place for two minutes to ensure the hot glue has cooled and hardened.

5. Cut three to four pieces of ribbon to measure 6 inches long, and hot glue each ribbon onto the end of the pom pom. The ribbons should hang freely from the pom pom.

6. Squeeze a pea-sized dollop of hot glue onto the end of the pom pom, over the ends of the ribbons. Press a jingle bell onto the hot glue, which will conceal the ribbon ends and will add a musical element to the kitten toy. Allow the hot glue to cool and harden for two minutes before using it to play with your kitten.
