Adopt A Pet In Long Beach

In a few simple steps you can become a pet owner.

Pet adoption is a way of acquiring a pet for little to no cost which helps save it's life and provides for a loving home. The Long Beach, California, area has adoption services available for puppies, dogs, kittens, cats and rabbits. Adoption is a serious commitment to the pet and the adoption agency that partners with Long Beach requires an in-person visit to complete an adoption. However, you can browse through available pets online before visiting the shelter.

Instructions

1. Visit the website for the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Los Angeles (spcaLA), because it has a special partnership with Long Beach and provides adoption services for the entire area. Click on the "Adopt" link at the top of the web page. The animals available for adoption can then be viewed.

2. Visit a spcaLA location. Click on the locations tab. The Long Beach location is on Spring Street in El Dorado Park. As of 2011, the shelter is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. The shelter has dogs, cats and rabbits available for adoption.

3. Fill out an application at the center once you decide that you would like to adopt a particular pet. When you're approved you'll be asked to pay a reasonable adoption fee for your pet to cover the costs associated with the spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations and health examination.

4. Provide spcaLA with proof of address, a copy of your rental lease or your landlord's phone number to ensure that the pet is allowed in your home. All available family members are required to meet the new pet. You will then speak to an adoption counselor prior to approval, which can take as long as an hour at the center.
