New Jersey has a program that will help when you are facing financial hardships that makes it difficult to provide the proper nutrition for your family. The Food Stamp Program in New Jersey provides groceries to help keep your family in good health. There are certain eligibility criteria, including household size and income. Assistance is normally given via a monthly food allowance. You can apply in person or online.
Instructions
1. Complete the online program "NJ Helps" to help determine your eligibility for assistance in New Jersey (see the fourth link in the Reference section below). NJHelps provides locations for receiving food stamp assistance, plus contact information and links to available resources throughout the state.
2. Apply in person at the County Welfare Agency in your county (see the "County Welfare Agencies" link in the Reference section below). Bring proof of your residency, such as a rent receipt, plus Social Security numbers and birth dates for every member of your household. Also provide proof of any income and health insurance coverage. Immigrants must supply proof of legal residency. Applicants must provide original documents upon request.
3. Apply online using the NJOneApp online application (see the link in the Reference section below). Answer every question that contains an asterisk. Provide names, Social Security numbers and dates of birth for every person on the application, plus information about any income or health insurance coverage. When completed click "Submit application." The office will contact you if more information is needed, and to advise you of your status.
