Craigslist offers a free place to advertise your home for rent.
Craigslist is a popular place for renters to quickly find homes for rent in their area and in their price ranges. Placing an ad is easily done, and it does not cost any money to advertise your home for rent. Include pictures, a detailed description and the rental price to help cut down on phone calls and questions about the property. Answer only the emails or phone calls you want about the house and get a lease signed on it and tenants moved in quickly.
Instructions
1. Visit Craigslist.org. Click on "post to classifieds" located at the top of the menu on the left side of the page. If you want to create an account with Craigslist to more easily post your ad in the future, click on "My Account." Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on "Sign up for an account." Follow the instructions to get an account.
2. Click on "housing offered" on the next page, which asks what type of posting you are placing on Craigslist. Choose a category most appropriate for your posting. Some options include "apts/housing for rent," "sublets/temporary" and "vacation rentals."
3. Type in the amount of rent, number of bedrooms and the title of your posting (such as Quaint 2-Bedroom House with Backyard) in the message fields at the top of the screen.
4. Enter your email address in the two fields below the title of the posting. Select "anonymize" below the posting title instead of "show" or "hide" so that your personal email address is not visible on the very public Craigslist.
5. Type in a description of your house. Include information like whether it comes with appliances, any bills paid, how many bedrooms, bathrooms, size of the garage, how many square feet the house has, if there is a backyard, if you allow pets and what kinds and what area of town it is in. Include your phone number if you want to receive calls instead of emails about the property. Indicate when it is available for rent.
6. Upload any photographs you have of the property from your computer. Four photographs are allowed. A curbside photo, as well as photos of a bedroom, living room and kitchen are good photos to post.
7. Type in the street the property is on, as well as the nearest cross street and the city it is in.
Click whether you allow cats and/or dogs in the house. Click "Continue" at the bottom of the screen. Finalize your post by typing in the security message to verify you are human and not a spammer on the next page. Check your email and confirm your post by clicking the link in the email. Your ad will be put on Craigslist shortly thereafter.
