Rescue A Pit Bull In Kentucky

Pit Bull Pup

Unfortunately, many pit bulls are left to roam the streets in Kentucky because owners didn’t take the time to understand what is involved in raising a pit bull. Improper or lack of training is a large reason why most pit bulls end up abandoned. Kentucky animal rescue centers have a disproportionate number of pit bulls and pit bull mixes waiting to be adopted.

Instructions

1. Read about the breed. Unfortunately, due to lack of knowledge and understanding, many Kentucky pit bull owners abandon their dogs. If you’re going to rescue a pit bull, make sure you know what you’re signing on for. In addition to reading about the breed, speak to other pit bull owners to gain as much insight as possible. The more informed you are about the breed, the better outcome you’ll have in rescuing a pit bull.

2. Evaluate your living environment. This is a twofold evaluation. Evaluate your available time. If you work all day, then getting an energetic pit bull may prove to be disastrous. Additionally, evaluate the people in your household. Pit bulls come in different temperaments. If you have young children, you have to be especially careful to rescue a pit bull that is familiar with and comfortable with young children

3. Consider your financial responsibilities. Just like children, dogs require constant care, feeding and love. To that end, they’ll need food and medical attention. Before you rescue a pit bull, spend a little time with a veterinarian to get an understanding of the financial ramifications of owning a pit bull.

4. Go to the Kentucky’s Pet Castle. The Pet Castle is a nonprofit no-kill animal rescue center that rescues all animals in addition to pit bulls. While they cater to the local Kentucky community, they do allow for out-of-state animal adoptions. Their goal is to find a good home for their animals. See Resources.

5. Visit the nonprofit Pit Bull Rescue & Adoption. The beauty of Pit Bull Rescue & Adoption is that by inserting your zip code, you’ll find a listing of pit bulls in your area in need of adoption.
