Your Cats
Traveling with any pet can be a daunting experience. Careful planning can make it an easy and fun time for all. Traveling with cats is a totally different experience than traveling with dogs.
Instructions
Gathering Your Cat Stuff
1. Purchase a large dog carrier. It should be large enough to house up to four cats with lots of room for them to wander around in. Put your cat food in a sealed container. Cover the full litter box with a large plastic bag. Have all your supplies stored in the car before beginning your adventure.
2. Set up dog carrier in the house several days before your trip, and let the cats wander in and out to get used to it. Line it with newspaper (in case of accidents).
3. Check for hotels that accept pets before you begin your trip. You can check online for this. Be sure to find out if they have a charge for pets. Remember that it makes the traveling much easier to transport the cats to a ground-floor room.
4. Load the dog carrier in the car and carry the cats in one at a time. Make sure it is carefully zipped up after the cats are inside. Most cats can go all day without using a litter box or eating. Traveling in a car is generally challenging for cats, so they will often sleep the entire day.
5. When you arrive at your hotel, be sure to take all cat things inside. Set up the food, water and litter box. Bring in the carrier with the cats. Let the cats out and they will eat and use the litter box. Make sure to put newspaper under the litter box.
6. The next traveling day, gather up food and equipment. Put the cats in the carrier before adding it to the car. Cats get easily spooked, so this is a way to make sure the cats are safely in their carrier.
