Birthday Party Ideas For A Baby

There are plenty of birthday ideas and themes for celebrating a baby's birthday. These parties are typically more for the parents and family than for the baby, since the baby will likely have no memory of the party. If possible choose a theme, location and other details that can make the party memorable for everyone involved. Does this Spark an idea?

Outings

Plan an outing to celebrate your baby's birthday. This could be an extra "play date" with cupcakes for the babies and light refreshments for the other moms. Or, it could be something special, such as going to the zoo, circus, visiting a local farm or the beach. Be flexible in your planning, just in case your baby has a "cranky" day.

Themes

Planning a themed party can make the process easier to organize coordinating invitations, decorations and other party details. It can also allow you to be creative by incorporating games, homemade decorations and other items that pertain to your theme. Cartoon or storybook characters, primary colors, letters, numbers, shapes, animals or a prince or princess are options. If he has a favorite toy, such as a red fire engine, use that as the theme and inspiration behind the party.

Activities

Plan activities throughout the party to keep the babies and adults entertained. Keep plenty of toys available for younger children, but put your baby's favorites away. Coloring books, bubbles and edible dough are other activities younger babies can enjoy. Parade the babies around in wagons while they blow bubbles. Or, ask each guest to bring their favorite stuffed animal to create an interactive petting zoo. Party activities for the adults include writing or painting messages for the baby on a picture frame, scrapbook, quilt, poster or creating a time capsule of messages for her to open on her 18th birthday. Games for adults are bowling with a soft ball and baby bottles pins filled with rice, or you can have guests draw your baby. Provide paper and crayons, then give the guests 30 seconds to start their "portrait," at the 30 second mark they need to pass their portrait on to the person sitting to the right of them. Each picture should be passed at least four or five times, or until the baby is tired of playing model.

Planning

Plan the party around your baby's natural schedule, and keep it short. If your baby is tired or hungry, he probably won't be in the best mood. Serving a full meal is not necessary, although snacks and finger foods should be available. Consider a simple gathering with close friends and family in a familiar place so your little guy feels at ease and comfortable. A restaurant full of strangers may overwhelm him.
