Adopt A Pomeranian Dog From A Rescue In Georgia

Pomeranians are lively, inquisitive and friendly. They make great pets for the right family.

Adopting a dog from a rescue center is a great way to find a pet. Georgia has hundreds of rescue centers, some of which are run by the Humane Society of Georgia. Rescue center dogs are not inferior to dogs acquired from a breeder, they are just the unfortunate result of owners being unable to meet their needs. Pomeranians are small, active dogs with an outgoing personality. Be sure that this is the right breed for you before adopting one.

Instructions

1. Research the breed and make sure that it is suitable. Speak to other Pomeranian owners and use the Internet to learn about owner experiences. People who take on a dog without understanding its needs are more likely to give it up than those who know what to expect. Pomeranians are lively and energetic dogs.

2. Find shelters in your area. You should be prepared to travel to find the right dog, but naturally it is not convenient to transport a dog thousands of miles, so limit your search to the state of Georgia. There are plenty of animal shelter listings online for rescue centers in Georgia.

3. Visit the rescue shelters to meet your potential new pet. Make an appointment with the shelter by phone and ensure that they have Pomeranians for rescue. Once there, spend some time getting to know the dogs. Sometimes dogs and people don't bond right away especially if the dog has been mistreated, so be patient.

4. Prepare your home. You'll need to have all of your supplies ready for when you bring home your new pet. In some cases, the shelter staff will wish to inspect your home to make sure it is suitable for a Pomeranian. Set up an area where the dog will sleep and make sure that the yard is secure.

5. Check on vaccinations for your new pet. Sometimes the rescue center will have already taken care of vaccinations; it may have even sterilized the dog as well. This is normal practice to reduce the number of unwanted dogs. Confirm that the dog has had vaccinations; if it hasn't, you need to make arrangements to do so with your own vet.

6. Bring home your dog. Buy a crate to transport the dog home and if the shelter is far away, take a water bowl, some dog food and a few bottles of water. Make regular rest stops so the dog can relieve itself. By adopting a Pomeranian from a rescue shelter, you will get a pet for minimal cost and you'll also be helping an animal in need.
