Play games while opening gifts at a baby shower.
A baby shower is a memorable event for the expectant mother, and a time to relax and enjoy being with close friends and family. Playing games is a tradition at baby showers and finding easy ones may be important if young children are in attendance. Choose from one or play a series of games at the baby shower.
Baby Shower Bingo
Gifts play a vital role in a baby shower so play a game that relates to the items. Before the event make copies of a 5 x 5 grid with enough room in each square to write several words. Write "bingo" in the center square. Right before the opening of gifts, pass out a grid to everyone. Instruct the players to write one possible gift item in each square. When everyone is done, pass the cards to the person on the left until everyone has a card that isn't their own. As each gift is opened, cross off an item if it appears on the grid. Whoever gets five in a row first, either horizontally, vertically or diagonally, must call out the word "baby" to win the game.
Don't Say "Baby"
Baby showers are full of mingling and conversation and chances are the word "baby" will often come up in conversation. As each person arrives at the party, give her a necklace with several safety pins on it. Instruct everyone to avoid saying the word "baby" and if someone hears another person say the word, she can point it out and get one of the pins. At the end of the shower, have everyone count up their pins. Whoever has the most wins the game.
Guess the Belly Size
Play a game of "guess the mom's belly size" if you have a willing participant who isn't uncomfortable with the idea. Each person gets to cut a section of yarn to the length they believe will go around the mom's belly. After everyone makes their guesses, take the actual measurement around her midsection with a piece of yarn. Take turns comparing the string guesses to the actual string. Whoever has the closest length wins.
Baby Picture Guessing Game
Ask everyone who will be attending the shower to bring a baby picture of themselves to give to the host. While everyone is busy socializing, create a poster board with all of the pictures attached. Write a number under each one and create an answer key. Everyone at the party can take turns looking at the board and writing down which party guest is in each baby picture.
