With "The Sims 2: Pets" expansion pack for "The Sims 2," you can add controllable cats and dogs to your Sim families. One way to obtain a pet in "The Sims 2" is through adoption. By default, only standard, auto-generated pets come up for adoption. However, pets that animal control officers retrieve from neglectful Sims, or those your Sims voluntarily give up, do come up for adoption periodically, and these may be custom-made.
Instructions
Create the Custom-Made Pet
1. Double-click "The Sims 2: Pets" icon to start the game.
2. Click the icon for the neighborhood you want to play.
3. Click the "Families" icon on the control panel in the bottom left corner of the screen.
4. Click the "Create a New Family" icon.
5. Add at least one adult to the family by clicking the human-shaped "+" icon. Then, add a cat or dog to the family by clicking on the cat- or dog-shaped "+" icon.
6. Customize the dog or cat by clicking buttons on the Create-A-Pet control panel for breed base, fur color, markings, body style and personality.
7. Click the check mark icon to signal you've finished creating your new family.
8. Click on a house on the neighborhood map to add this new family with a custom pet to the game. The game takes you into the home of the new family immediately.
9. Click the phone in the home, and choose the commands "Call," "Services" and then "Pet Adoption Services--Give Up Pet." This is how the custom-made pet enters the adoption stream and becomes available for adoption to another Sim family.
10. Click the pet's name from the dialog box that pops up, then click the "+" icon to add the pet to the list of animals to give up, and click the check mark to confirm your choice. Click "Yes" when asked if you are sure you want to do this.
Adopt the Custom-Made Pet
11. Click the "Options" button on the control panel in the lower left corner of the screen. Then, click the icon for "Neighborhood" to exit back to the map.
12. Click "Yes" to save changes to the game.
13. Click the house belonging to the Sim family you want to adopt the custom-made pet.
14. Click the face icon for one of the adult Sims to make her the active Sim.
15. Click the phone, and choose the commands "Call," "Services" and "Pet Adoption Service."
16. Click the image of the custom-made pet the other family just surrendered from the list of animals available for adoption. Click the check mark icon to confirm. An animal control officer will deliver the dog or cat in a squad car within 24 hours. If you call before ten in the morning, the pet arrives in minutes.
