Facts About Goldendoodles

A mix of standard Poodle and Golden Retriever, Goldendoodles were first introduced in both North American and Australia in the the mid-1990s to capitalize on the popularity of the Labradoodle, a Poodle and Labrador Retriever mix. The result is a small and gentle animal with minimal to no shedding, making them a good choice of pet for people with allergies.

Physical Characteristics

While first-generation Goldendoodles, known as F1, have either distinctively curly Poodle coats or soft and straight Golden Retriever coats, usually their look is somewhere in between. A subset of first-generation Goldendoodles, known as F1B, is a cross between a Goldendoodle and Poodle and have more Poodle characteristics. Male F1 Goldendoodles grow to be about 55-75 pounds, while females are around 40-55 pounds. Male F1B Goldendoodles reach about 45-65 pounds, while females are around 30-45.

Temperment

Goldendoodles are happy and playful dogs, possessing the personality of the passive Golden Retriever. They are usually very satisfied and sociable, with a fierce love and loyalty to their owners. They can easily become mischievous if left alone for too long but are very bright dogs who are eager to please and learn, making them highly trainable.

Grooming

Goldendoodles require very little maintenance and only need to have their coat brushed every few weeks. Some owners decide to keep the hair short, but if they do not their hair can grow to be anywhere from 4-7 inches long. Goldendoodles with short hair only need a full grooming a few times a year.

Living Conditions & Life Expectancy

Goldendoodles are highly adaptable dogs who do well in both the city and the country. They require only moderate exercise and very few health problems are anticipated. Due to being a hybrid breed, they are expected to live longer than their parents who live anywhere from 10-15 years.
