Apply For Spay & Neuter Grants

Photos of the grant's beneficiaries may be required for a grant.

Whether you are a large pet rescue operation that runs out of a facility or a small volunteer based pet rescue that operates out of volunteer homes, there are many spay and neuter grant opportunities available to you. The basic requirement for any grant is that your organization is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Once you have found grants that are in line with your organization's goals, the application process is usually straightforward ---but also unfortunately tedious.

Instructions

1. Read through all of the grant application instructions. Although most grants have similar requirements such as financial documents, a budget and statement of what the money will be used for, each grant application will also have specific instructions for how and when to complete the grant application. You must follow the instructions explicitly or your application may not be considered.

2. Write a letter of inquiry and submit it to the organization supplying the grant. This is often the first step to getting the approval to apply for the grant. Once approved you will be sent the full application and instructions.

3. Create a checklist to organize the process. On this checklist include all the parts of the grant application that must be completed along with due dates.

4. Fill out the application and bring together all required supporting documents such as a budget for the use of the grant, financial statements, staff resumes and photographs. For spay and neuter grants you will most likely need to explain how many pets you plan to spay or neuter with the grant money and how you will get the animals. You may need to answer such questions as if this will be for privately owned pets or rescue pets. Most grant providers required detailed information, so set aside enough time to complete the application before the due date.

5. Send the application by regular mail or email as the instructions state by the due date. Grant applications received after the specified due date will not be considered.
