Food Ideas For A Littlest Pet Shop Party

Remember to have treats for Fido on hand.

Littlest Pet Shop parties are sure to please kids and parents alike when you offer a balanced array of themed snacks. From puppy cake pops to gummy worms, use the animal theme to entertain your little partygoers. With online resources easily available, you can find quirky snacks that will help make lifetime memories at your party. Does this Spark an idea?

Cake Pops: Pigs and Puppies and ...

A sure hit, cake pops are delicious single-serving desserts decorated to resemble pigs, puppies, chickens, monkeys and other animals you choose to feature at your party. Though the cake pops are available for purchase online, you can easily make them at home with a little bit of practice. With some lollipop sticks, cake, frosting or fondant, decorative candies and food coloring markers, you can have a blast just preparing the cake pops for the pet party.

If you're hesitant about testing your cake pop skills, a simpler alternative is to bake a pawprint-shaped cake by combining one large round cake with three or four small ones; or, use printed "'Littlest Pet Shop" circles to embellish decorative cupcake picks (see References).

Pet Food: Animal Snacks

Run with the pet theme by serving pet "food" in clean new pet food bowls: you can even label gummy worms "bird food," baby carrots "rabbit food" or goldfish-shaped crackers "cat food." Dip bananas in chocolate and freeze for a monkey snack. By introducing animal-shaped or animal-themed snacks, you can enhance the party theme without overloading revelers with refined sugar. Other pet-themed snacks include candy bugs, animal crackers and sandwiches cut with doghouse-shaped or dog bone-shaped cookie cutters. You can also cut gelatin jigglers into pet party shapes.

Cookie Markers: Delicious Crafts

For "Littlest Pet Shop" party food that combines snacks with party activities, provide simple sugar cookies or cupcakes with printable frosting sheets. Frosting sheets are available with premeasured circles to cut out (see Resources). Supply food coloring cookie markers (see Resources) for all of your guests to decorate their own frosting sheet with their favorite "Littlest Pet Shop" animal, pet accessory or pet name. Print out stencils to trace or pictures to use as a reference. Be sure to take pictures of the decorated cookies or cupcakes before they are all eaten.

Furry Friends: Food for Fido

A great way to celebrate the "Littlest Pet Shop" party theme further is to prepare -- or help guests prepare -- dog- and cat-friendly pet treats. Follow recipes (see Resources) that won't upset the animals' tummies. Send home pet treats with the guests for their pets. Alternatively, you can have a dog treat recipe mixed, chilled and ready to cut into shapes. Set up a station for guests to help cut out shapes and bake during the party. After the dog treats have cooled, allow guests to help bag them and wrap them for later delivery to a local animal shelter. Take photos of the delivery to include with party thank-you notes.
