Write A Letter Of Recommendation For An Adoption

Writing a letter of recommendation can be tough.

If you have been asked to write a letter of recommendation for an adoption, you have been given a significant responsibility. The couple that wants to adopt is growing their family and needs your help to make that dream a reality. This means you need to take your responsibility seriously and write the letter of recommendation very carefully to ensure that the adoption agency gets an honest and complete view of the family.

Instructions

1. Type your full legal name at the top of the letter of recommendation for adoption.

2. Add your current home address below your name. Leave a space then add the date.

3. Address the letter to an agency or particular agent within the agency if possible. Otherwise, type "To Whom It May Concern."

4. Explain who you are and how you know the couple that wants to adopt a child. Include how long you have known them. In some cases, you may know only one person in the couple or it may be a single person adopting the child. If that's the case, mention only the one person. A couple will likely be asking others for recommendation letters about the other person.

5. Talk about the couple or person you're recommending. Include details about their personality and what would make them good parents. Giving specific examples is most helpful. For example, if you mention that a person is generous and caring, talk about their volunteer work with children to demonstrate that. This part of the letter should be three or four short paragraphs.

6. Let the agency know that you can be contacted and provide your phone number. End the letter with a polite closing, such as "Sincerely," and sign your name.
