Pit bulls are very beautiful, loving dogs when raised in the right environment. Many pit bulls need loving homes where they can live out the rest of their days. They typically act on instinct and serve to always protect their owners. There are many things to consider when you decide to rescue a pit bull.

1. In Reno, go to the Wylie Animal Rescue Foundation. This animal rescue has a large number of dogs, especially pit bulls. It can also point you in the direction of other shelters if you don't find exactly what you’re looking for. This particular shelter is located on Incline Village in Nevada, but be sure to call for directions if you're not familiar with that particular area.
2. You can also call the Wylie Animal Rescue Foundation ahead of time to find out how many pit bulls it has to choose from, and their ages. Call (775) 833-2319 and ask to speak with the person in charge of adoptions.
3. After you have made a trip to the shelter, fill out an application to adopt a pit bull. Sometimes, animal adoption agencies can be picky about who is allowed to adopt. This is for the welfare of the animal. Be honest and open when filling out the application.
4. Once you fill out the application, you may need to wait for approval depending on the agency. Some agencies will work hard to do the screening while you're there to make things easier for you; other agencies might want you to wait.
5. Once you’re approved to adopt a pit bull, a volunteer will ask you some questions to match you with the right animal. This person will then make some recommendations based on your answers, and then you can go pick your dog. Choose wisely and consider all factors. According to this rescue foundation, many loving pit bulls are being slaughtered because so many of them are dumped at various shelters. This is happening because of the media portraying all of them as being bad. In some places, landlords can also evict tenants if they have a pit bull.
