Highpaying Jobs For Teens

Teens can find an assortment of high-paying jobs.

Teens look for full-time work in the summertime and part-time work during the school year, but many have trouble finding high-paying jobs. Teens working in places like retail stores and fast-food restaurants generally make minimum wage and do not receive tips. But there are many higher-paying positions available to teens. Waiters and waitresses, for instance, made an average of $9.62 per hour in 2010, tips included. Teens can also find several other jobs that pay well over the minimum wage.

Golf Caddy

The job of golf caddying ranks number one on Forbes list of the Best-Paying Summer Jobs, with an average wage of $16.67 per hour in 2010. Caddies accompany golfers mainly to hold their bags and do other small tasks for them. Caddies can sometimes work for two or more golfers at the same time and often earn generous tips from the golfers.

Babysitting

Babysitting is one of the most high-paying jobs for teens. According to the parent-babysitter matching website SitterCity.com, babysitters make an average of $12.50 per hour, which is over $5 more than the federal minimum wage. There are no age requirements for babysitters as long as they demonstrate responsibility. Teens can work as babysitters throughout the school year and summertime.

Health Care

The health-care industry is expected to add 3.2 million jobs between 2008 and 2018, according to Forbes Magazine. The nonmedical assistant, or home health aid, is a great job for teens, paying an average of $10.39 per hour. It involves visiting with elderly clients and performing tasks for them, such as shopping for groceries. Another good job in the industry is a pharmacy associate, and you only need to be 16 years old to get the job. Pharmacy associates assist the pharmacy department in a store, and make an impressive $10.74 per hour.

Tutoring

Teens can set their own rates and hours by becoming tutors in a school subject, such as math, reading or writing. They can tutor other teens in subjects or offer their services to younger students in elementary schools. Tutoring can be done part-time in the after-school hours. Unlike most teen jobs, this is not just a summer job but lasts throughout the school year.

Housekeeping

SnagAJob, the popular online job-board for hourly employment, says that housekeepers make $10.02 per hour. These positions are at hotels and resorts. They do most of their hiring of teens in the summer months and offer part-time and full-time employment.
