Games represent a traditional component of baby showers. Most baby shower games work for any theme or time of day. They serve as an icebreaker and source of entertainment for guests. The games typically lead off the baby shower but work well at any point during the event. Consider the preferences of the mom-to-be and the guests when planning the activities.
Price Is Right
A baby-themed pricing games challenges the shopping skills of shower guests. Purchase 10 to 20 baby items of varying prices. Ideas include a jar of baby food, baby wipes, bib, sleeper, baby bath tub and a pack of diapers. Use a word-processing program to create a worksheet that lists each item. Distribute the sheets to the guests. Hold up each item one at a time so the guests can see it. Let them know the size, number of items in the package and any other information that could influence cost. Each guest writes down her best guess for the retail price. After all items have been shown, go back through and announce the price of each item. The person who is closest to the actual price without going over gets a point for that item. The person with the most points at the end wins. Give all of the baby items used in the game to the guest of honor.
Clothesline Game
Stretch a string across the room. Provide a basket of baby clothes and clothespins. The object of the game is to have the guests, one at a time, hang as many of the baby clothes on the line as possible within 30 seconds. The catch is that the player must hold a doll and a cordless phone as she does it to simulate the multi-tasking required in motherhood. Engage the contestant in a conversation as if she were really on the phone to further distract her efforts. Award a prize to the player who hands the most items on the string within the allotted time.
Stacking Contest
Ask shower guests to practice their stacking skills with this game. Provide diapers, baby clothing or alphabet blocks for the contest. Give the players one minute to stack as many of the items as possible without knocking over the pile. If there are several guests, you may need to have two or more heats of the game to ensure there are enough stacking items. The winner from each heat will compete in the finals to determine the baby stacking champion.
