Donate To An Animal Charity

Donate to an Animal Charity

Donating to charities allows people to provide assistance to causes that are important to them. Animal charities are grounded on a foundation designed to assist animals in some way. However, when it comes to choosing a specific charity to donate to, the list gets pretty long and the task can appear exhausting. Despite these setbacks, a person need only follow these simple steps to donate to an animal charity of her choice.

Instructions

1. Narrow down what animals or what causes you prefer to support. Animal charities may focus on multiple issues or they may support only one. For instance, the charity Action for Animals focuses on preventing animal cruelty. The World Wildlife Foundation, on the other hand, centers its efforts on saving endangered species and purchasing land for animal habitats.

2. Consider a local, national or worldwide charity. You may prefer to donate to a charity that supports animals in your local community. For instance, the Animal Charity of Youngstown Ohio provides a variety of services to the public such as veterinary care, pet grooming and training guides and even cruelty investigation. Most communities have a humane society that offers veterinary services, pet education and many other initiatives. Another option is to donate to a larger charity such as the World Society for the Protection of Animals, which supports animal welfare internationally.

3. Double check your charity. After choosing a charity, do a bit of research to ensure that it is legitimate. You can call the charity and request specific information about how donations are used. Another option is to use a program such as GuideStar.org, which offers data on over 850,000 non-profit organizations.

4. Select a donation amount. After choosing a specific charity, decide how much money you would like to donate. Many animal charities have programs that allow supporters to donate monthly or you can choose a onetime payment. Another option is to donate items rather than money. For example, the non-profit organization Muttville (which rescues and fosters senior dogs) requests specific items that the organization needs such as dog beds, flea treatments and food supplements.

5. Decide the best way to donate your money. Many animal charities offer several options for people who want to donate. These may include Internet payments with a credit or debit card, check through mail, phone donations and even in person. Some charities also offer more creative options such as donating stock or an old car. Simply choose your preferred method and make your donation.
