How Rescue A Dog

Rescuing dogs gives them a second chance to have loving families and homes.

Unfortunately, animal cruelty and neglect occurs throughout the world at alarming rates, with such issues as dog fighting to outright starvation and suffering. When this is happening to one or more dogs that you know about, it can be heartbreaking, and you may want to try to rescue the dog. Knowing rescue a dog isn't exactly difficult, but it takes planning and the ability to care for a dog or see that it receives the care it needs to live a happy life. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Ask the owner if they would like to give their dog away. Sometimes an owner is willing to give up a pet, and you could even offer to pay for it if the owner is financially strapped. If you don't get along with the owner, or if he is otherwise unapproachable, use another tactic to rescue the neglected or abused dog.

2. Contact Animal Control in your area. Depending on where you live, you can contact the police department to be connected with someone in Animal Control. Explaining the problem alerts police to the abuse or neglect.

3. Offer to adopt the dog if Animal Control removes the dog from the abusive or neglectful owners. Sometimes the removal is as simple as taking the dog from the property, or issuing citations to the owners to hand over the pets. Whatever the tactics used by Animal Control to remove the dog, you can offer your assistance.

4. Provide a suitable, nurturing environment for the rescued dog if you are able to adopt or foster it until it finds a new home. Adopting the dog is a process that varies from region to region. Some municipalities require that you first take pet owner classes, while others require that the dog be spayed or neutered and examined by a veterinarian. If Animal Control or another group wants to inspect your home, make it accommodating to the type of dog you are rescuing.

5. Honor the Animal Control or other rescue agency's guidelines in caring for your rescued dog. Such animals may be checked up on periodically to confirm that they are living in better conditions. Staying up to date on its shots, grooming and dietary needs keeps your home in compliance for your rescued dog.
